Class Descriptions
Creative Movement (2 ˝ to 3 years old):
These classes are an introduction to dance. The fundamentals of dance are taught and proper terminology is learned. Our goal is to have fun while learning principles of movement!
PreDance (4 to 6 years old):
Introduces children 4-6 to ballet and tap in a nurturing environment.
Ballet/Jazz (6 to 9 years):
60-minute classes include a ballet warm-up, stretching, dancing across the floor, and finishes with a jazz combination.
Ballet: (6 to Adult):
Ballet is considered the foundation of movement. Dancers' attention to meticulous technical detail is invaluable for any serious dancer. Using classic barre and centre floor combinations, classes focus on body alignment, proper technique, and head and upper arm carriage and movement with grace. Ballet teaches poise, strength, grace and flexibility. It trains dancers to be clean, versatile performers.
Hip Hop: (6 to Adult):
Hip Hop is a blend of today's high energy "street style" movement. Typically performed to "popular music," this style of dance has been very popular with teens, pre-teens and "young at heart". The style boasts that everyone is capable of taking part, making Hip Hop the latest dance phenomenon. Emphasis on intense warm-up exercises. High Energy and Challenging Classes.
Jazz: (6 to Adult):
This class includes stretching and proper dance technique. Dancers incorporate sense of lines and extension while gaining strength, flexibility and musicality.
Tap: (6 to Adult):
Tap teaches intricacies and rhythm. Tap begins at the feet and moves through the body to create a fluid elegance in this wonderful form of dance.
Tumbling (5 to Adult):
Teaches the fundamentals of movement and timing with tumbling.
Expectations... The Fired-Up Dance Academy staff expects all students to:
- Arrive to class not only on time but early
- Take Pride in Appearance and Training by properly preparing for each class
- Come prepared in proper dance clothes and shoes, with hair neatly and properly prepared
- Work hard in each class and enjoy dancing
- Respect all teachers and fellow classmates
Dress Code
**Students will not be allowed to participate if not properly dressed.PLEASE TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR APPEARANCE AND YOUR TRAINING BY PROPERLY PREPARING FOR EACH CLASS!
- Pink leotard, pink tights. Ballet skirts are allowed. No Tutus Please!
- Shoes: Pink ballet shoes; black Mary Jane tap shoes if necessary
- Hair: Please have hair pulled SECURELY off the dancer's face in a pony tail, bun or half-up/half-down style
6-9 year olds:
- Ballet: Black leotard, pink tights. Ballet skirts allowed . Hair neatly SECURED in a bun
- Tap: jazz pants with a solid-colored leotard and/or a fitted shirt; tap shoes
- Jazz: jazz pants with solid-colored leotard and/or a fitted shirt; jazz shoes
- Ballet/Jazz: either ballet attire or jazz attire. See instructor regarding shoe preference.
- Shoes: pink ballet shoes, black Mary Jane tap shoes; black slip-on jazz shoes
- Hair: Please have hair pulled SECURELY off the dancer's face in a pony tail, bun or half-up/half-down style.
10 years old and up:
BALLET DRESS CODE: Strictly Enforced!
- Hair MUST be slicked back in a bun using gel or hairspray. Buns must be well-secured. Hair net strongly recommended. MESSY BUNS ARE UNACCEPTABLE. Please clip bangs back.
- PINK TIGHT FOR ALL LEVELS!
- Pink ballet shoes required. No socks or barefoot!
- Solid-colored leotard, preferrably black. NO BIKE SHORTS OR SKIRTS. Ballet shorts, ballet shrugs and leg warmers acceptable.
JAZZ DRESS CODE: Dance clothes such as jazz pants with a leotard under, a tight t-shirt or long cami may be worn. Jazz shoes. Hair secured in a tight pony tail. Contemporary Jazz/Progressions: Bootie shorts acceptable. Barefoot or foot thongs. Jazz shoes ok. Hair secured back.
HIP HOP DRESS CODE: Comfortable clothing. NO JEANS. Sweatshirts and T-shirts ok MANDATORY: SUPPORTIVE SHOES MUST BE WORN IN CLASS. PLEASE DO NOT WEAR STREET SHOES INTO THE STUDIO. Dancers need to have shoes specifically for wear in the studio. Rocks and dirt damage our floors!
TAP DRESS CODE: Dance clothes; legs covered; black oxford tap shoes. Hair pulled back out of face, pony tails preferred.
MALES all levels:
- Ballet: Black pants, t-shirt, black ballet shoes
- Tap: Black pants or sweat pants, t-shirt, oxford tap shoes
- Jazz: Black pants, t-shirt, black ballet shoes or black slip-on jazz shoes
ADULT CLASSES: Be Comfortable!
